Modern Orthodontics
Orthodontics today combines digital technology, advanced appliances, and evidence-based strategies to improve treatment outcomes.
Diagnostics: 3D scans and CBCT (when needed) give precise images for planning.
Appliances:
Clear Aligners work well for mild-to-moderate cases without extractions, but they are less effective for complex movements (like big root torque or major vertical/transverse corrections).
Fixed Braces are still superior for difficult tooth movements.
Attachments on aligners improve control but cannot fully replace braces for some movements.
TADs (Temporary Anchorage Devices): Tiny titanium screws placed in bone provide strong anchorage. They help with complex tasks such as pulling teeth back in groups, moving molars up or down, or correcting difficult bite problems. Using 3D planning makes placement more accurate and safer.
In aligner treatments, TADs increase predictability and make harder movements (vertical or sagittal corrections) possible.
Early (Interceptive) Treatment: Short-term orthodontics in childhood can fix crossbites, reduce trauma risk in severe overjet, and manage crowding (sometimes with planned extractions). This often makes later treatment simpler.
Key to Success: Careful case selection, realistic treatment goals, and combining methods (aligners + TADs or limited braces) when needed.
